Tunturi E50-168 and QZ: Resistance Control and Distance Calculation Fixed

QZ now handles the Tunturi E50-168 more accurately in two important areas: distance calculation and resistance control. A real-bike test confirmed that the odometer displayed correctly after the fix, while resistance could be changed from QZ’s Resistance tile and from the physical controls on the bike.

The implementation was first tested in a QZ TestFlight build and was then merged into the public QZ repository in PR #5050. For this setup, use a QZ build that includes the Tunturi E50-168 changes from that PR.

What changed in QZ

The Tunturi-specific correction makes three practical changes:

  • The existing gear and resistance handling is used with a 1:1 ratio for this Tunturi path.
  • The maximum resistance is set to 48, matching the expected range of the E50-168.
  • The total-distance scale is corrected from /1000 to /10000, fixing the odometer calculation.

What the real-bike test confirmed

Capability Confirmed result
QZ connection Confirmed on a real Tunturi E50
Odometer and distance Displayed correctly after the fix
QZ Resistance tile The +/- controls changed resistance
Physical bike controls Resistance buttons worked alongside QZ
Automatic resistance in workouts or virtual apps The corrected control path supports this workflow, but the specific app should still be checked

Setup notes

After connecting the bike, pedal for a short distance and check that QZ’s odometer increases realistically. Then use the Resistance tile and confirm that the bike responds across its expected range. There is no need to use the Gear tile simply to control normal resistance: in this configuration, the Resistance tile is the clearer option.

What QZ adds

QZ can bridge supported indoor bikes to training applications while exposing workout metrics, resistance control and virtual-device workflows. Depending on the equipment and platform, it can also connect workout data with services such as Garmin Connect, Strava, Apple Health / HealthKit and Google Health Connect where supported and configured.

The confirmed result here is specific to the tested Tunturi E50-168. It should not be generalized to every Tunturi model or every third-party training application. If something does not work as expected with your Tunturi bike, send an email to Roberto.viola83@gmail.com and Roberto will help you check the setup.
