Daum 8008 TRS 3 and QZ: Connected Training for a Classic Ergometer

The Daum Ergo Bike 8008 TRS 3 is a classic ergometer that can still become part of a modern connected-training setup. With its documented serial interface and the right USB-to-serial connection, the bike can send workout data to QZ and receive training commands from compatible sessions.

QZ adds a bridge between the Daum 8008 TRS 3 and the training platforms you already use. Instead of leaving the bike limited to its original cockpit, you can bring power, cadence, speed, distance, heart rate and gear information into a flexible software setup for virtual routes, structured workouts and recorded sessions.

Connect the Daum 8008 TRS 3 to QZ

The 8008 TRS 3 uses an RS232 serial interface rather than native Bluetooth. On Android, use a compatible USB-to-RS232 adapter and configure the dedicated Daum serial setting in QZ:

  1. Connect the USB-to-RS232 adapter to the Daum bike.
  2. Connect the adapter to the Android device before starting QZ.
  3. Open QZ and set daum_serialport to usb.
  4. Accept the Android USB permission prompt when it appears.
  5. Put the Daum cockpit in Program 0 / free training.
  6. Start QZ and select the Daum bike profile.
  7. Confirm that live telemetry is visible before starting a longer workout.

QZ uses the protocol-defined 9600 8N1 serial configuration internally. The usb setting identifies the Android USB serial transport; it is not a baud-rate setting. Android devices exposing a local serial port can also use an appropriate /dev/... path or auto where supported.

What QZ reads from the Daum bike

The dedicated Daum profile is designed to make the 8008 TRS 3 useful beyond its original display. QZ can read and expose:

The result is a clear software view of the ride, while the Daum remains a solid physical ergometer for everyday indoor training.

ERG workouts and power control

The Daum 8008 TRS 3 can also receive supported power commands from QZ. The dedicated implementation uses the bike’s Set_Watt protocol command in 5-watt steps, making the setup suitable for ERG-style workouts and structured power sessions when the selected application provides that workflow.

Start with a short workout and verify the response of the bike before moving to a demanding interval session. Keeping the cockpit in Program 0 / free training is important when QZ is controlling the bike from the connected device.

Kinomap, MyWhoosh and other training platforms

QZ can act as the connection layer between the Daum 8008 TRS 3 and compatible applications such as Kinomap, MyWhoosh and Incyclist, as well as other platforms that can use the outputs provided by QZ. The application supplies the route or workout experience, while QZ handles the bike connection, telemetry and supported control workflow.

This gives the 8008 TRS 3 a practical second life: keep the dependable ergometer hardware and add modern virtual routes, structured sessions, workout recording and a wider choice of training software.

A useful upgrade for a proven ergometer

The Daum 8008 TRS 3 does not need native Bluetooth to become part of a connected setup. Its documented RS232 interface, a USB-to-serial adapter and QZ are enough to connect the classic bike to current training workflows.

Select the dedicated Daum profile, use daum_serialport=usb on Android, accept the USB permission and start from Program 0 / free training. QZ then provides a flexible bridge for live data, compatible apps and supported ERG control without replacing the bike’s original cockpit.

The Wider QZ Ecosystem

Beyond this device-specific connection, QZ can act as a flexible training and data bridge across a much wider fitness ecosystem. The exact options depend on the selected profile, platform and hardware, but the broader QZ toolkit includes:

These are QZ ecosystem capabilities rather than a promise that every function is native to this particular machine. The device-specific setup and controls described above remain the authoritative part for this model; third-party apps may also have their own account, subscription and content requirements.
