QZ now adds elevation gain and flights climbed to Apple Health for every treadmill workout. Incline sessions can now carry a more complete summary into Apple Health, alongside the usual workout information.

Elevation gain in Apple Health
QZ already calculates the treadmill’s elevation gain from the workout data. The Apple Health integration now stores that value as elevation metadata using Apple’s HKMetadataKeyElevationAscended, so the workout can retain the total ascent in metres.[2]
Flights climbed for treadmill workouts
Apple Health uses a flights-climbed quantity for stair-style vertical gain. QZ converts treadmill elevation gain into flights using the Apple Health convention of one flight for every 3.048 metres, or 10 feet, and writes the result to the completed treadmill workout.[1]
| Apple Health value | How QZ handles it |
|---|---|
| Elevation gain | Stores positive ascent as Apple Health elevation metadata in metres. |
| Flights climbed | Converts treadmill ascent using 3.048 metres per flight and records the resulting quantity for treadmill workouts. |
| Incline source | Uses QZ’s treadmill elevation-gain metric, keeping the Apple Health record aligned with the workout’s incline data. |
| iPhone and Apple Watch | The implementation covers the iOS workout path and the watchOS companion workflow.[1] [2] |
What this means for treadmill users
When you complete a treadmill workout with QZ and grant the required Apple Health permissions, your workout can include the climb you accumulated rather than reporting only time, distance, heart rate and energy. It is especially useful for incline walks, hill workouts and treadmill sessions that simulate outdoor elevation.
- Allow QZ to write workouts and the relevant elevation and flights-climbed data in Apple Health.
- Start the treadmill workout through QZ.
- Use the treadmill incline as normal; QZ tracks the resulting elevation gain.
- Press Stop at the end of the workout so QZ can finish and save the Apple Health record.
A richer treadmill record
QZ connects treadmills to the training workflow you prefer and now carries the vertical dimension into Apple Health as well: treadmill incline → QZ elevation gain → Apple Health elevation and flights climbed. That makes the saved workout a more faithful summary of the effort completed.
